1. Take antacid. Over the counter heartburn medication or antacids in tablet or liquid form can help cool the burn. Take a dose about every six hours as needed but make sure you don't overdo it. Too much antacid can also cause constipation or diarrhea

8. Don't overeat and lose the fat! The fat pressing against the stomach can cause the contents to reflux.

9. Go for a low calorie diet. Stay away from highly spiced, fried and fatty foods because they take longer to digest.

10. Don't smoke. Nicotine irritates the valve between the stomach and the esophagus as well as stomach lining.

11. A big contributor to heartburn is stress.  Stress can create increased acid secretion. Say no to stress!

12. Slow down on alcohol and soda. They can cause stomach distention due to gas which causes acid rolling back up into the esophagus.
